Bio
The Full Story
I am a clinician-researcher with over two decades of experience providing clinical social work services to the LGBTQ+ community. My scholarship focuses on the health and well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals, families, and communities, particularly midlife and older adults. I seek to develop, implement, and evaluate culturally sensitive interventions that address the social determinants of health disparities among marginalized communities, physical, mental, and social. I also has more than a decade of experience as an educator, teaching reflexive social work practice and advanced social work practice with older adults.
I currently serve as the Training Coordinator for the translational research unit of the Goldsen Institute, AgePride/Healthy Generations, which provides trainings on best practices for providing culturally responsive, evidence-based care for LGBTQ+ older adults. I have set up this website as part of a course I'm taking to become certified in instructional design. The content and scope of this certificate course is a major departure from the last several decades of my life and the lenses through which I experience it. I don't consider myself a Luddite, but other than the most basic knowledge and skills (e.g., creating Word documents and PowerPoint slides, and run statistical software), I'm one of the least technologically savvy people I know!
On the other hand, and although it's just the first week of class, this particular course has me very excited as I'm seeing some ways that some of my background (e.g., human factors psychology) can make substantial contributions to this course! Stay tuned for further developments!
